Guinness World Record Most Full Extension Punches in 24 Hours
This is my crazy story of how I got the idea to do this, to actually doing it … As an Olympic medalist and former undefeated professional boxer, I’ve always been driven to push the limits of what’s possible. So when the idea of breaking a Guinness World Record popped into my head, I knew I had to go for it. The record I set my sights on was the most full extension punches in 24 hours. At first glance, it seemed like a straightforward challenge – just punch a heavy bag for 24 hours straight, right? But as I soon discovered, there was a lot more to it than that.
My Childhood Inspiration
Like many kids, I grew up fascinated by the Guinness World Record books. Every Christmas, I would eagerly flip through the pages, marveling at the extraordinary feats accomplished by people from all walks of life. Some were born with unique abilities, while others achieved greatness through sheer determination and hard work. Fast forward 30 years, and now my children are doing the same, sharing in the wonder of human achievement. This inspired me to show them that we, too, can accomplish extraordinary things if we set our minds to it.

Preparing for the Challenge
When I first announced my plans to attempt this Guinness World Record, I received a mix of excitement and skepticism. People questioned whether my body could handle the strain, especially since I had recently suffered a serious injury to my spine from jiu-jitsu. But I was determined to make it happen. I wanted to demonstrate to my kids that dreams and achievements are not just for the extraordinary people we see on TV or read about in books; they are for all of us.
To get ready, I knew I needed to build up my boxing fitness and endurance to a whole new level. I started by setting up a heavy bag at home and doing intense punching sessions, gradually increasing the duration from just a few minutes to a full hour at a time. But I quickly realized that hitting the heavy bag alone wasn’t going to be enough. I needed to find a way to make my training more engaging and effective.
That’s when I turned to the Thrill of the Fight 2 VR game. By immersing myself in the virtual reality boxing experience, I was able to get an incredible workout while keeping my mind engaged and entertained. The combination of heavy bag work and VR sparring sessions helped me build the stamina I knew I’d need. It was a fun way to mix things up and keep my training fresh, especially during those long, repetitive sessions.
Nutrition: Fueling the Fire
Of course, proper nutrition was also crucial. I connected with Foursigmatic to fuel my training with their organic coffee blends, which helped me stay focused and energized. I also worked with a nutrition expert from Full Force Nutrition to develop a meal plan that would provide the energy and recovery I’d need. This was particularly important as I was burning a significant number of calories during my training sessions.
As the weeks went on, I pushed myself harder and harder in the gym, gradually increasing my punching volume and duration. I knew that if I was going to have any chance of succeeding, I’d need to be in the best shape of my life. I repeated this process for weeks, waking up early, hitting the gym, and then coming home to spend time with my family. It was a balancing act, but I was committed to making it work.

Organizing the Record Attempt
But the physical preparation was only half the battle. There were also a ton of logistical details to work out in order to make this Guinness World Record attempt a success. First, I needed to find the right venue. I reached out to Gym Nation, one of the best gym chains in the UAE, and they were thrilled to host the event at one of their 24/7 locations in Dubai. This was a huge relief, as I wanted to ensure that I had a professional environment to attempt this record.
Next, I had to assemble a team of people to help make it all happen. This included:
Two official punch counters per 8-hour shift, to tally every single punch I threw.
A live streaming crew to capture the entire 24-hour attempt, ensuring that everything was documented for Guinness.
A Guinness World Records adjudicator to oversee the proceedings and verify that I was following all the rules.
A boxing expert to ensure my form remained proper throughout the attempt.
My wife and assistant to handle logistics, nutrition, and moral support.
Coordinating all of these moving parts was a massive undertaking. I quickly realized I’d need to hire a small army of people just to pull this off – and that was before even factoring in the cost of getting the Guinness adjudicator to fly in from the UK. In total, I ended up spending over $16,000 just on the official Guinness World Records requirements. Add in travel, accommodations, equipment, and staffing, and the final price tag was staggering. But I was determined to make it happen, no matter the cost.

The Record Attempt Begins
Finally, the big day arrived. On my 40th birthday, I stepped into the ring at Gym Nation in Dubai, ready to punch my way into the record books. The atmosphere was electric, with friends, family, and fans all gathered to support me. I felt a mix of excitement and nerves as I prepared to take on this monumental challenge.
The first several hours went incredibly well. I felt strong, my form was solid, and I was able to maintain a steady pace of punches. The energy in the gym was palpable, with a crowd of spectators cheering me on and the live stream viewers sending messages of encouragement. I was in the zone, and it felt amazing to be doing something so challenging and rewarding.
But around the 12-hour mark, the fatigue really started to set in. My shoulders were burning, my lower back was aching, and my hands were swollen and sore. There were moments where I honestly didn’t think I could keep going. I hit a wall, and it was hard to push through. I had to dig deep and remind myself why I was doing this.
That’s when the support of the people around me became absolutely crucial. My wife Sarah, my mom, and my best friends were all there, offering words of encouragement and helping me push through the pain. And seeing the excitement on my kids’ faces as they watched me chase this dream gave me an extra burst of motivation. I wanted to show them that hard work and determination can lead to incredible achievements.
Overcoming the Struggles
As the hours ticked by, it got harder and harder. The Guinness World Records adjudicator even had to step in at one point to remind me to keep my hands up, as my form was starting to slip. But I refused to give up. I focused on taking it one hour at a time, breaking the challenge down into manageable segments. This mental strategy helped me cope with the overwhelming nature of the task.
Finally, with the crowd chanting and the live stream viewers going wild, I made it to the 24-hour mark. When the clock struck zero, I had shattered the previous record, throwing a total of 105,000 punches. The feeling of accomplishment was indescribable. I had not only achieved my goal but had also proven to myself and my children that anything is possible with hard work and dedication.

Lessons Learned
Looking back on this experience, there are a few key lessons I took away:
Preparation is everything. The months of training, nutrition planning, and logistical coordination were absolutely essential to making this attempt a success. If I hadn’t put in that work upfront, there’s no way I would have been able to push through the grueling 24 hours.
Surround yourself with the right people. From my wife and family to the experts I brought in, having a strong support system made all the difference. I couldn’t have done it alone.
Embrace the suck. There were so many moments during the record attempt where I wanted to quit. But I learned to take it one hour at a time, focusing on getting through the immediate challenge in front of me rather than getting overwhelmed by the bigger picture.

Most importantly, I proved to myself and my kids that with enough dedication and hard work, anyone can achieve the extraordinary. That’s a lesson I hope they’ll carry with them for the rest of their lives.
